Bristol: W.D. & H.O. Wills Ltd., 1897. White boards, oblong format, 14 x 19cm, gilt bordered boards, with gilt titles, 10 richly coloured chromolithograph plates, two of them folding.
Near Fine. The white covers show just a hint of toning, top board has a 2mm pen mark near the top border, a small chip (5 x 2mm) at base of top hinge, head and foot of spine lightly bumped as is top corner of top board. The paste-downs, sporting advertisements for “Three Castles” and “Capstan (Navy Cut)” tobacco and cigarettes, are lightly foxed. The plates are clean and bright and all but the portrait of Her Majesty have one-line tobacco advertisements at their head.
Quite an exquisite little souvenir and elaborate advertisement for Wills’ Tobaccos & Cigarettes (awarded 14 Prize Medals according to the rear pate-down ad). The third plate shows the Victorian Rifles and New South Wales Lancers passing Pall Mall.
